The Cypher Sessions with Dr. Byron Young
Join Sonder Impact, Sip & Sonder, and DoingItWell.org as they present Dr. Byron Young’s “The Cypher Sessions,” where community, culture, and critical dialogue converge.
This time, we’re diving into the heartbeat of Los Angeles—exploring the places and spaces where connection lives beyond work and home. From bookstores and barbershops to parks, protests, poetry nights, and pop-ups, we’ll reflect on the physical and emotional architecture of belonging.
Where do we go to feel seen, held, and whole?
How can public spaces and creative events become antidotes to loneliness and disconnection?
What does it mean to intentionally build community in the city of angels?
Joining Dr. Young in this vital conversation is Demetrius Murphy, PhD candidate, writer, and thought leader who explores identity, place, and liberation through the lens of geography and Black culture. Demetrius brings a unique perspective on how city spaces shape our experiences of connection—and how we reclaim and reimagine them for our collective well-being.
What to bring:
Your mind
Your mobile phone
Your love of music
Your thoughts on your favorite places and people in LA
This is a space to map meaning, gather with intention, and dream up new ways of being in community.
Let’s vibe. Let’s share. Let’s build the LA we want to live in.
Come be part of the conversation!

about the cypher sessions
The Cypher Sessions bring together the minds and ideas of the community to uplift, empower, and inspire one another. Led by community psychiatrist and wellness consultant Dr. Byron Young, this interactive, community-based education experience deconstructs Black music to spark meaningful dialogue around social justice, emotional health, and radical resilience.
